Weardale Agricultural Society

We are small group based in a small village called St. John's Chapel in Weardale, County Durham. The Society organises a large agricultural show (Weardale Show, also commonly known as Chapel Show) held on the last Saturday in August.

The show gives good opportunities for:

  • Amateur exhibitors to take part in friendly competition such as photography and handicraft.
  • The public to enjoy a fun day out (hopefully blessed by good weather).
  • Sponsors to promote their businesses and to help build the community.

We welcome new members — both as part of the committee and as general helpers. All Society members have the right to vote at the annual general meeting, and receive free entrance to the main show.

Throughout the year the following meetings are scheduled:

  • Annual General Meeting: 2nd Sunday in November.
  • Annual Show Dinner: first Friday in November.
  • Committee meetings: every 2nd Sunday in the month.

Annual membership fee: £6 per person.

Volunteers Sought

We always welcome volunteers to help organising the event and/or to help out on the show day.

If you...

  • ... have time to spare
  • ... can move hay bales, tables and chairs
  • ... can make tea or bacon butties
  • ... are happy to bake cakes to be sold in the Refreshment Tent
  • ... can offer your help in any other way

...then we are more than happy to hear from you.
